The TBIS is a golfing society in Sussex with a group of around 50 people. TBIS Events are every 6-8 weeks and there is an ongoing 10 event tournament where players participate in the hope of winning the Race to the Stone.
It was a landmark day for Steve Farrell as he claimed his maiden TBIS Event 1 victory in our fifth season, securing his place in society folklore with a sensational performance at Petersfield Golf Course.
With 28 players teeing it up—despite whispers in the wind about a fading "feel-good factor" in the TBIS camp—the society showed up strong and was rewarded with a memorable outing on a beautiful, if blustery, Hampshire course. Quick greens and gusty conditions tested all, but Farrell rose above it all, carding a phenomenal 42 Stableford points off an 18 handicap to take the win.
The pint-sized crowd favourite wasn’t done there—he also bagged a nearest-the-pin prize and etched his name in TBIS lore with an epic 70ft+ team putt-off hole out, sending his group into raptures.
Farrell becomes only the second senior (over 55) to win on tour and marks the 39th different winner in TBIS history from 43 events played—a testament to the ever-competitive and unpredictable nature of the society.
It wasn’t all sunshine though—Luke Stewart had a round to forget, trudging off with just 13 points and claiming the dreaded Pony Hat. A classy golfer, Luke suffered one of those days we all know too well—when the game simply refuses to cooperate.
Looking ahead, the TBIS train rolls on to Ham Manor Golf Course on Thursday 3rd July. Local buzz suggests the track is in the best shape it's been for years. Post-round plans are shaping up nicely too—with beers flowing locally and a curry night finale in Rustington in the works.
Roll on Ham Manor—TBIS is very much alive and kicking.
