The TBIS is a golfing society in Sussex with a group of around 50 people. TBIS Events are every 6-8 weeks and there is an ongoing 10 event tournament where players participate in the hope of winning the Race to the Stone.

The famous TBIS Christmas event teed off in true festive fashion with a 9am shotgun start at Worthing Golf Club, taking on the upper course. As always, this event was about far more than just golf – it was a chance for everyone to come together, celebrate the year, and enjoy the camaraderie that defines TBIS.
With beers provided by the committee throughout the course, spirits were high despite the testing conditions. The dress code was firmly festive, with Christmas jumpers and knee-high Christmas socks on full display, adding colour and laughter to a windswept day.
The occasion was made even more special with the arrival of new TBIS merchandise. Players flocked to get their hands on the limited-edition white beanies, which proved popular – and very much needed given the weather.
Considering the battling elements, the course held up well. However, this was probably the wettest and windiest combination TBIS has ever faced. The conditions were tough and unforgiving, a constant battle from the first tee to the last green. This was not for the weak-hearted, with many players unable to complete the full 18 holes. Hats off to anyone who simply made it round in one piece, let alone managed to string together a competitive score.
A total of 37 players took part, battling it out across the course. Nearest the pin winners went to Daz Fuller, Ross Standen, Dave Blunsdon, Paul Evans, Joe Perry and Sam Garnham.
With this being a major, a few extra prizes were added to the mix. Best senior score was claimed by Barry Boyling, while the best back nine was shared between Steve Herbert, Paul Evans and Sam Garnham, all posting impressive 23-point hauls.
The day also saw a new major champion crowned. Ash Wright claimed overall singles victory with an outstanding 44 points, earning his place on the tray. Close behind was Sam Garnham in second with 43 points. As the new major winner, Ash now boasts a shiny golf star to his name and a seat at the prestigious Christmas “major winners” top table, complete with a committee-provided free bar for all major winners.
The team game was won by Steve Herbert, Ash Wright, Lee Garnham and Gareth Cook.
After a much needed warm shower, the group freshened up and stuck on their TBIS ties and jackets to keep the tradition alive ! After many well-earned beers back at Worthing Golf Club, the celebrations continued into the night as the group headed to the Thomas A Beckett.
With just a few events left before the big one, attention will soon turn to the race to the Stone Weekend. But for now… next stop in February we have Epsom!
Thank you to everyone who got involved in this event and for all the support throughout 2025. We wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
