The TBIS is a golfing society in Sussex with a group of around 50 people. TBIS Events are every 6-8 weeks and there is an ongoing 10 event tournament where players participate in the hope of winning the Race to the Stone.
After years of near-misses and heartbreak, Dave Blunsdon – affectionately known as "Blunny" – finally got over the line, clinching his maiden win on the TBIS tour with a scintillating 43-point performance at Milford. Blunsdon becomes the third senior winner in as many events this 2025/26 season and the 41st unique name to lift the coveted Tray.
It wasn’t without drama. His 17-handicap-fuelled round narrowly edged out James Brown, who carded 42 points but was unfortunately undone by a mis-marked scorecard. Despite the disappointment, it was a day of high scores across the board, with the top five players from a field of 22 all breaking the 40-point barrier – a true points fest.
The course setup, feared to be tough from the white tees, turned out to be surprisingly scoreable, catching many off guard and all but guaranteeing handicap cuts ahead of Event 4 at The Dyke in September.
In the closest-to-the-pin contests, Craig Prior came away with double bragging rights, claiming two of the six prizes. The remaining four were split between James Brown, Alf Garnham, Daryll Frost, and TBIS Committee member Joe Perry.
Group 2 stole the spotlight, as winner Dave Blunsdon, previous Ham Manor champion Darren Fuller, and the ever-competitive Mark Fowler combined for an eye-catching 45-point team total.
Off the course, the Committee has announced plans to review and potentially remove inactive members, citing a lack of playing time as the driving factor. With growing interest and limited spots, the goal is to ensure availability for more committed participants.
Next up, TBIS heads to The Dyke Golf Club in Brighton on Thursday, 4th September – marking the society’s debut at the venue. Known for its challenge and stunning views, it’s expected to be a highlight of the season. Event details will follow in the coming days.
