The TBIS is a golfing society in Sussex with a group of around 50 people. TBIS Events are every 6-8 weeks and there is an ongoing 10 event tournament where players participate in the hope of winning the Race to the Stone.
Dorset, UK – The Boundstone Invitational Society (TBIS) brought the curtain down on its fourth "Race to the Stone" weekend with a spectacular season finale at the scenic Dorset Country Club, where 17 competitors teed off in pursuit of major glory—and left with memories, prizes, and camaraderie to match.
It was Wayne Newton who emerged triumphant, etching his name into TBIS history as the society’s eighth major winner. His consistent performance across three 9-hole courses over two testing days secured him the prestigious Buddha Trophy and a coveted seat at the annual winners' dinner. Newton becomes only the fourth member to hold the Buddha, joining the elite company of Ross Garnham, Joe Perry, and John Hearn.
Despite a five-stroke handicap penalty, Newton posted an impressive 70-point total, showcasing solid, composed golf in varying weather conditions. His efforts earned him the £800 top prize—and the satisfaction of finally converting a strong season into silverware.
Close on his heels were James Page and Gav Hammond, both of whom have made significant impressions since joining the TBIS Tour. Their tenacity and flair earned them each a top-tier golf driver valued at £400 each, with both players pushing Newton to the limit in the closing holes.
The event introduced a new twist to the format: every participant walked away with a prize. The Committee’s fresh approach added a touch of excitement and inclusivity to what has already become a highlight of the TBIS calendar.
Thursday’s play was graced by glorious weather, perfect for competitive yet friendly rounds, followed by spirited pub outings to sample local brews. Friday, however, delivered a true mental test—with damp, chilly conditions demanding resilience and grit. Yet, despite the cold, spirits remained high and the post-round clubhouse warmth provided the perfect reward.
As always, the venue proved ideal for society golf, with exceptional hospitality and a course setup that welcomed competition. A memorable Thursday night out and a traditional Friday wind-down, featuring the now-legendary ‘Sparrow Shoulder’ dinner, capped off the weekend.
Looking ahead, TBIS is already in motion planning for its fifth season. The Committee, comprised of volunteers, remains committed to delivering high-quality events with generous prize pots, a sense of professionalism, and a welcoming atmosphere that keeps members coming back.
“The goal is simple,” a Committee spokesperson shared. “To provide a competitive, friendly environment where people can enjoy golf and build real connections. We do this for the love of the game and the group that show there commitment.”
The new season tees off on 6th June at Petersfield Golf Club, with the full 2025/2026 schedule to be announced shortly. Members are encouraged to offer feedback and ideas to help shape the future of the society as this is your tour. The Committee are always trying to improve the society to make this as enjoyable for its members as much as they can.
In the meantime, rest up, sharpen your swings, and prepare—because TBIS is just getting started.
