The TBIS is a golfing society in Sussex with a group of around 50 people. TBIS Events are every 6-8 weeks and there is an ongoing 10 event tournament where players participate in the hope of winning the Race to the Stone.
Dyke Golf Club, Sussex Downs — In what will go down as one of the most dramatic and wind-battered events in TBIS history, Jordan Hide etched his name onto the prestigious Tray for the first time with a stunning 44-point performance, conquering 40+ mph winds high above Brighton.
Playing off a handicap of 31, Hide delivered a masterclass in control and finesse, leaving the field in his wake during Event 4 of the season. His score was a full 9 points clear of second-place finisher John Hearn, who himself posted an impressive 35 points in the extreme conditions.
The Dyke Golf Club, perched atop the exposed Sussex Downs, offered little shelter from the elements. The wind proved the ultimate test, with players battling for balance, precision, and sanity in what many are calling the toughest conditions TBIS has faced in its 5-year history.
“This was a true test of golf,” said one committee member. “Jordan showed immense skill and patience. It was his day.” he continued with " the lad hasn't shot anything over 28 points in his last 9 events, so to bring it home in these conditions is a true reflection that he's improving and moving in the right direction with his game"
While the wind wreaked havoc on many scorecards, Hide remained composed, and his victory signals a likely significant handicap cut ahead of the next event at Seaford Head Golf Club on October 3rd. With only four players in TBIS history having claimed multiple victories, Hide now joins the long list of talented winners to make their mark.
The day wasn’t just about individual triumph. Hide was also part of the winning team game alongside TBIS stalwarts James Page, Craig Prior, and Darren Fuller — all former event champions themselves, making the victory all the sweeter.
Despite the chaos on the greens, there were moments of brilliance in the Nearest the Pin contests. Steve Farrell stunned the field by sticking two shots inside five feet to claim a rare double bubble. Committee members Joe Perry took the third of the day and Adam Hunt also flirted with perfection, nearly holing out from 175 yards on Hole 17.
Though numbers were slightly down due to the midweek scheduling, the spirit of the TBIS community shone through once again. “The feedback from the group was, as always, incredibly positive,” said one organiser. “We’re proud of the enthusiasm and energy our players bring, regardless of the conditions.”
Looking ahead to Event 5, the committee has hinted at a new format to be unveiled — promising to add a fresh layer of intrigue and strategy to the season. Details are expected in the coming days, so members are advised to keep an eye on their phones.
As the TBIS continues its exciting period of growth and evolution, it’s clear that the society is as committed as ever to providing thrilling, competitive golf across some of the South Coast’s finest courses.
Congratulations, Jordan Hide — the latest name on the Tray.
